When looking at a UMDA 66 IDE Cable vs a ATA 100 IDE Cable, how does one tell them apart? They both appear to be the same, Blue connector on one end Black on the other.
Is there a guide somewhere that explains the differences in IDE cables?
They are one in the same!
The so called ULTRA cable is the fine 80core type where as the older 33 type is the course 40 strand variety, some ultra cables do have a blue end but not all.
Just remember all hard drives from about 1998 were ATA 66 and required an ultra 80 core ribbon cable, since then we have had hard drive specs ATA100 and 133 "same ultra 80 core cable" Martin
