My UMAX 2100u scanner doesn't scan right any more. Its scans black thats it. Its like the Scanner bulb is out but its not!
I have never messed with any of the setting and the scanner worked fine up until last week. I have had it for about a year.

Any thoughts? Could the Scanner Lamp be no good even though it is on? Or did something else break down?

Thanks!!

If it's black, it's not getting any light reflected from the document back into the "eye". Thus, if the lamp is going, perhaps it's the optical eye? At this point you have nothing to lose by cracking it open and trying to repair it. Ironically, I've got a Umax scanner that is doing a slow fade - didn't Umax just come out with a pay-for-drivers scheme? ;-)

Mine has started doing the same thing.

Have you figured out the problem? I don't have much use on mine and I'd like to get it working again.

Thanks.

I have a UMAX Astra 2100U scanner and it began scanning only black images, exactly as you described. You may be happy to know that I was able to get it working again. After taking it apart and trying to discover the source of the problem, I found nothing. Finally, in frustration, I slapped it and PRESTO! Now it works like a charm. I have no idea what the problem was, but it works now. Don't hit it too hard, or you may break it even more! Hope this helps :D

As for the paid for drivers thing. I had that when i was looking for those drivers. But i found them on another of their own websites. It was a European website, perhaps German.
I dont know if they have been taken out by now. But i do know people were complaining about being told they have to pay for new drivers and others like me were pointing out the drivers were available. Dont know what the situation is right now, but i suggest you try all their different countries websites, or perhaps other, 3rd party driver websites.
