We have a client with an SV8100 and a UM8000. I logged into the UM8000 today to do some mailbox maintenance and I saw an alert that updates were available. Updates are a good thing, right? I hit the button and checked all the boxes (which may have been my big mistake). The update completed. I got a screen that the update was successful and the system will reboot. After the reboot the voicemail came back up but I can't get back into admin. Instead I get a page telling me that the system is updating! I can't get past it!

The complication here is that the SV8100 and UM8000 are EOL and NEC won't help me. The customer is not going to upgrade at this time. So I turn to you fine folks here.

I found a post somewhere with someone who had a similar problem and resolved it by doing the update through the 'terminal'. I assume he meant SSH. I can connect with Putty but I can't find clear instructions for doing the upgrade with SSH on a system past 11.3. I think this was 11.7 or 11.8. I found one document that talks about an upgrade option under Maintaining in the SSH menus but that option doesn't exist in this system. I don't want to try the really old instructions unless I know they will work on the newer system without blowing it up completely. I already did enough damage.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Fortunately, we got help from NEC and the issue was resolved. For those who may be having the same issue here is the solution in short.

The update process temporarily changes the redirect page for when you log in and then changes it back when the update is done. In my case, for some reason, it didn't change it back after the update.

The solution is to go into the system via SSH and go to the command prompt. You need to go to the folders var/ and var/ In each one copy back the original redirect with the command

cp .htaccess.tmp .htaccess

That resolved my issue.

WARNING! I make no warrantee that this will resolve someone else's issue. Do not try this unless you know what you're doing and you are willing to accept the risks. I did not give step by step instructions here because I don't have time but also because, if you need so much hand holding you probably shouldn't be trying this.

I'm putting this here so professionals can find a solution once NEC completely stops answering questions about the UM8000.

Enjoy!

Thank you for that information. I'm sure it will help others.
