Anybody have a "How-to" on setting up personal fax boxes?

I'm still not getting this right... I *think* I get it set up right, but all I end up with is a message with fax tones.

Did the company setup your fax ports on the UM8000? You should have 4 on the blade available. Did they install the licenseing for them to work?

Set the UM8000 License that are Loaded in the SV8300

1. Set the licensed amount of UM8000 FAX ports
2. Set the licensed amount of UM8000 View Apps (View Mail/View FAX)
Clients
3. Set the licensed amount of UM8000 Multi-Language
Command Code: EE1
First Data: First Data: AABB044
Where AA = Unit, BB = Slot,
044 = FAX ports
Second Data: Second Data: 000 - 999
Amount of FAX ports license loaded
in the SV8300 to enable in the
UM8000.

I'm a little confused on that... why would I need physical ports? This isn't for "personal fax machines", but for "personal fax boxes"; when faxes hit the voicemail box, the voicemail is supposed to say "Oh, I hear fax tones", receive the fax, and e-mail it to the subscriber.

What are you using to view the Fax's. You need a fax viewer have it sent to email for delivery. Their are so many variations to what your problem could be right now and not enough info provided from you. Do you have fax licenses in the system? Do you have fax boards assigned to be able to receive your CNG tones from faxes? Do you have a manual or the vendor who installed this system for you to complete the setup properly for you?

Faxes to the main fax box show up as a TIF attachment in the email.

Do you have fax licenses in the system?

How do I check?

Do you have fax boards assigned to be able to receive your CNG tones from faxes?

Once again, why do I need a physical board for this? Aren't CNG tones detected and faxes received by the Voicemail itself? Sending faxes through the voicemail works....

Do you have a manual or the vendor who installed this system for you to complete the setup properly for you?

Yes. I have the complete installation manuals for the UM8000. The fax section is SEVERELY lacking in detail.

Dude, If I am not wrong, you need fax boards to turn the tones into legable printable language. You say your system now is just receiving recordings of fax tones, right. Well I might be wrong, but you need a fax boards (module) to plug into your system inorder for it to convert AUDIO fax tones into characters as a fax machine does.

Your license and fax information is listed above on how to check them. Also you have the manuals, and they will show exacly what I am showing you.

If you have a vendor and am in question. Ask them, that is what they are there for. They can at least point you in the right direction.

I don't know if this is on an 8100 or 8300, but either way the setup is similar. To clarify there ARE separate FAX ports on the UM8000, but I think the piece you are missing is that the fax box is a SEPARATE box number. There are two different ways to set this up, but basically you will give the user a FAX BOX. Once this is done you will need to program a virtual extension that matches this box number and call forward it to the VM Pilot. Then route a separate DID to this virtual and the fax will go to the users box.
