I'm trying to load SOlaris 8 (10/01) on an older Ultra 5. It loads the WebStart and accepts all the IP data, but once it ask for the first disk, the install begins installing and then you get nothing but the X-Window system background and the install never goes any further.

Do I need to upgrade the bios or something? Thoughts?

can you boot the Ultra5 from this Solaris, I mean:
boot cdrom -sw
works fine?

Do you have another Media Kit? I'm just guessing, but I've seen a lot of defective CDs...

Sorry I'm not a native spaeker, I'm from Munich, Germany - "Home of the Whopper", oh no, "Home of the Oktoberfest" ;-)

Yes, I can boot with "boot cdrom -sw" and it put's me into single suer mode.

btw - Little more info. It's using a UltraSPARC IIi 360MHz CPU with 64MB. I thought about Sol9, but the memory is a problem... you need a min of 96MB to install.

Don't use the web start bit, just start with disk 1 of 2
and then

boot cdrom

Hummm... well, I did the "boot cdrom" with disk 1 of 2. It installed everything and came to the point where is prompted me for the root password and then asked me to set the powersaving features. Then it failed and said "Webstart failed unexpectidly, press Return and the system will reboot".

The system rebooted to the logon gui and everything seams to be working fine.

THanks for the help... it looks like there was just some sort of issue with the Webstart.
