Hi
I fitted ADAPTEC SCSI CARD 29160 NMS 64 BIT PCI 160Mb BIOS v.3 . 10 . 0
INTERNAL SCSI LVD ULTRA 160 CABLE
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 18XL ST39236 LWV 68PIN U160 SCSI
all boots up just fine but when partitioning by any method Win98 creates an extra drive duplicating the first partition the duplicate being listed in Device Manager but not the actual first partition. Also both partitions can be made accessible eventually but the actual first partition is shown to be working in "Dos Compatability Mode" in System Properties. I have tested almost everything and the disk works well.
MAINBOARD ASUSTEK COMPUTER INC P5A-B
CPU AMD-K6-500Mhz
RAM 128Mb
BIOS AWARD SOFTWARE, INC ASUS P5-B ACPI BIOS REVISION 10/19/99
O.S. WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION 4.10.2222A
More Windows magic ?

Not sure what the problem is with the partitions. But, if I was building a system like this, I would not put 98 on it. 2000 Pro would SCREAM on that controller and HD. A+ MCP

Hi
Good point; but I must point out this computer started life as a DX4-100 with Dos and Win3.11, I just can't help adding bits, anyway the drive recognition problem seems to be inside Windows as Dos and Dos based programs have no problem recognising the disk partitions and their letters.

Hi
Well, in case any one is interested I fixed the problem with a "clean" reinstallation of Win98, which didn't take long, unfortunately reinstalling fifty or so programmes took a couple of days.
