I have a lsi 53c1010-33 u160 controler and a seagate st39204lc ultra 160 drive.drive whould sync to 160 speed at first for about four months. Then i noticed on controler card bios start up it says failed to revert to narrow on hard drive.Iam only getting 40mb sec sync now instead of 160 mb sec.I entered scsi card bios setup and noticed hard drive was at 8bits that setting will get you 40mb sec.so i swiched to 16 bit setting that should give me 160 mb sec.Problem is when i do that and exit the scsi bios agian says failed to revert to narrow or 160 mb sec.I go back into scsi bios and it sets drive to 8 bits instead of 16 bits. Its a 80 pin drive with a 68 pin converter on it and the cable is 160 compliant and terminated.Any ideal what the problem is also iam running win 2000pro.whould a drive firmware update help the firmware now is 006.Thank you.ati9000xp@msn.com

Get rid of the converter.
Firmware rev is good

I was rather cheap on the answer, you may need to get a special cable, throught a cable specialist company, many on a google search of special scsi cable , many place will be listed. If you cannot find a made up cable you may need one made to order. Converters are know to cause probablem, notably lowering SCSI bus speed.
