Hi,

I have a 4 line Multi Aux where I seem to get the caller display information in the form

0191-XXX XXXX

I'd normally expect 0191XXXXXXX.

Unfortunately the space in the string causes the PBX to go dolally...

BT say that the format is fixed and can't be changed, yet the PBX behaves differently on different lines!

Any clues?

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

For completeness, I've found the following answer to my question....

I've looked at the BT Specifications.

BT SIN 227

page24 SIN 227 said:
The digits may be interspersed with BT IA5-encoded punctuation characters "space" and "-".

So the lines are within BT specification and the phone system barfs when presented with certain calls.

I've proved the pbx fault using another PBX to emulate the PSTN network, including sending CLI with spaces in it... SO the issue is with the manufacturers

If you have different lines on the same system behaving differently you could open a service ticket with BT and have them make it homogenous on all lines. Preferably without the dashes, it is worth a try. It is just a setting in their CO and they can change it if they want to.
good luck with it

I'd settle for someone who can actually can understand what I am asking...

And to be fair, once you have cut through the ***p and have got a BT man on site, they are actually normal people and try to help!

I guess BT is just like Bell Canada here, you call them and get the call centre in India to open a trouble ticket. Then you have to hope that you get a call back from someone that is able to speak english and has actually a clue and I have to say I got lucky on Friday afternoon at 5:35 pm (the guy was probably hoping I won't pick up my phone but that is besides the point).
In all honesty I have been on the other end of these calls for 15 years and some people that work as installers are just as bad, but those guys will never post an answer to a question on this forum they would be the ones asking the really, really basic stuff.

Fortunately, we have a web ticketing system for faults.

However, we have a number of other contact points, all UK based. It seems that when I ring them to ask a question I may as well be speaking martian. The ISDN team are excellent though - every Bring into Service or migration works well.
