So, a guy calls me up and wants me to upgrade his IP406v2 to the highest he can go without having to buy a license.
He says he is running 4.2 now. I hesitate to get involved with this guy because he is an in-house IT guy for a regional company down here, and he does all his own service so he isn't really a customer and wont be. But... can someone please refresh my memory, what is the highest I can take the old 406 to, without needing a license? I've looked everywhere.
Thanks in advance,

Well if he is NOT a customer and never will be then tell him to figure it out

I'm with you Joe but my boss's wife works for that company.

The early 406 units MAY have had less RAM and hence be incompatible with R5. I'm going from memory here, so read the docs to be sure. The last R4.2 was a fairly solid version - any idea why he wants to upgrade?

feature difference between 4.2 and 5.0 is SIP extensions plus maybe something I forgot over time.
If they don't want to use SIP extensions then an upgrade is just a lousy idea (IT guy you said :)) tell them that and it will get them off your back.

From what I gather from the conversation with this guy was something to do with SMDR output. He got it from somewhere/somebody that the 4.2 wasn't compatible with the product hes seeking.

from the book

2.18 SMDR to replace CDR
IP Office release 5 will no longer generate Call Data Records (CDR). IP Office release 4.2 introduced IP Office generated Station Messaging Detail Reporting (SMDR) which will be utilized going forward.
