Help....I've hit the wall.

We have existing 11c and we're trying to re-establish service with LEC. We asked to upgrade from 1-PRI to 2-PRI. To make it all come together, the LEC had us sign new contracts for both new PRI (NI-2). I'm now trying to get LEC to configure Inbound/Outbound caller ID but they are confusing me.

Inbound

Right now I'm receiving DIGITS only. I want to receive NAMES and DIGITS from LEC. They keep telling me it is enabled in their system and it must be a problem on my system. Should I be able to see NAME in the D channel message? I've used LD96 and I don't see any names appearing in the packets. How do I prove to LEC that the problem is in their system?

Outbound

When I call my apartment, the DIGITS arrive on my caller ID but not the name. (I think I'm talking to the wrong people at the LEC). They are telling me that the name should be issued from our 11c. This doesn't sound right. Shouldn't the LEC be issuing the name?

On the Outbound, the Phone Company databases send the Subscriber Name with the Number, if the number called has Caller ID service, the two pieces of info should show up. In some cases, the name sent doesn't match. (It may be the previous owner of the number) The phone company needs to update their name database. (You will have to tell them of the error.) At least, this is the way it works in my neck of the woods...

correct on the reply, if your not getting names on your dch, your not getting names.. in your rcap for then d, you need to add nd2 (name display, type 2) that sould send names, you will need to dis the card and download it

Thanks Guys,

That answers a lot of questions and removes some doubt in my mind about getting this to work.

Inbound

Okay, I should be expecting names to appear in the DCH. Trying to convince them that the NAMES aren't coming down the pipe isn't working. I got to thinking about it last night, I could use LD96 and with a few screen captures, I'll have evidence that names aren't appearing. That might be easier and remove all doubt for them.

Outbound

I haven't figured out how to prove to them that their database needs fixing. It used to work (or sort of). Our old PRI account was tied to a sister company so their name was in the database. With the new PRIs we've unlinked the two companies but according to CALLER-ID, we're known as "unknown". I guess I need to be a little more persistant with them about the database connections -or- change our company name to "Unknown Inc".

Thanks again,

mike

we had the exact problem in our own office.
the local CO had the database correctly configured, but the remote end CO had a not synched up SS7 database (that doesnt sound possible , in theroy)according to the CLEC

This used to happen to us all the time a few years ago--however, at that time it was the ILEC that would not pay the $$ to do the database lookup for the name.

Very interesting dicussion with LEC. LEC says they've turned on the caller-id however, my 11c is rejecting. I found an earlier post that suggests Nortel doesn't implement inbound caller-id until 25.40. True? I think I've got 25.30 but I can't tell.

LEC confessed that they goofed. They are telling me that besides the $300 cost, there is a monthly charge og $25. They forgot to tell me before I ordered it.

LEC says they can't provide outbound caller-id becasue of tariff issues. I think there might be some confusion. All I want is for our company name to appear on caller-id at the far end. I think LEC thinks I want to send from my 11c.

Ugh.......oh well, par for the course.

Gary,

I performed the entry and found the following:

Version: 2111
Release 25
Issue 30+
PSWV Version: PSWV54

So when people talk about needed a release 24b, I assume my release is above the 24b minimum? Issue appears to be the number of patches that have been installed? What's the PSWV?

mike

Correct. Commonly referred to as 25.30

PSWV: Peripheral Software Versions
downloaded to: NT8D01 Controller cards, NT8D04 Network cards and NT8D018 Network/Digitone Receiver cards.
