I run ufsdump cvf /dev/rmt/1 / for a full system backup.
the log show:
Dump: Finished writing last dump volume
Dump: Starting verify pass
Dump: Verification error 9 feet into tape 1
Dump: NEEDS ATTENTION: Do you want to rewrite?: ("yes" or "no" )

What is the meannig of error 9 feet into tape1?

Sam.

From the ufsdump man page:

v Verify. After each tape or diskette is written, verify the contents of the media against the source file system. If any discrepancies occur, prompt for new media, then repeat the dump/verification process. The file system must be unmounted. This option cannot be used to verify a dump to standard output.

Are you unmounting your filesystems before the ufsdump? If not, remove the flag as per mbrooks instruction above.

I don't mind people who aren't what they seem. I just wish they'd make their mind up.
