I am working with solaris 8. Can someone give me a command to query all of the disks in a server. I dont know the commands on sun and don't know how many disks or if all disks are used.
Also, can you extend a ufs filesystem if you have not used all the the disks cylinders. I am used to working with logical volumes managers on other flavors. But need more space and don't want to wipe out partions and run newfs if there is any other way.
Thanks....S

The 'format' command will show the disks on the system and allow you to adjust partitions. You will have to make a backup of your data before extending your partitions because the data will be lost. Copy the backup of the partition to another disk and restore it after you are finished extending and newfs'ing the partition.

As far as I know, you can grow filesystems on the fly (though not recommended for the root filesystem), using growfs and retaining existing data. Check out the docs.sun.com site for details.

Sorry - should have pointed out that as far as I know growfs applies only to Disksuite related tasks. It's been a long week!
