UDP?

Ok, i dont think this is the right forum, but i cant find any other forum where this would go in... so sorry
UDP is a datales protocol. Im just wondering how computers can send/recieve data using UPD if they dont connect?
With TCP they connect and packeta are sent? So how does this work with UDP?
