Just had a customer ask if they can do Centralized Voice Mail using UDP. They have 3 BCM 50's tied to a BCM 400 and 2 of the sites start with the same lead digit for the extension. From everything I can find and the only way that I have ever done Centralized is using CDP where each site started with a unique number. So I thought I would check here and see if anyone has done it using UDP.

I have a setup of 6 BCM 50's with 1- 400 with cdp. You can have the same leading digit with CDP.

531x 1-site
532x 1-site
533x 1-site
etc ?
What's your numbering plan?

never used UDP .

It's only dialtone-VZ

Thanks, I always thought CDP had to be unique. I got the following from an Installer Guide. So I never tried to set it up the way you said.

From Installation Guide:
"To use CDP, the user dials the internal DN for the target
telephone. Each node DN range starts with a unique digit."

Are you using Centralized VM?

# Plan
400 = 2xxx
50 = 3xxx
50 = 4xxx
50 = 2xxx

Agree with vztech, I had a City, using CDP with overlapping digits. I remember a Thread about a year ago, on using UDP, but I don't think there was ever a resolution..

Adversity is Opportunity

The remote sites can start with the same digits and your routing can be very basic (ie: 3xxx for a couple of locations) because you figure all the digits 2xxx are all using the VoIP trunks (Pool A or BlocA for example). Just when programming the IP Gateway, thats where you need to be more specific.

Example:
Remote Site A (ext 3000-3040): Gateway programming digits of 300 301 302 303 304 to IP 192.168.1.10

Remote Site B (ext 3050-3069): Gateway programming digits of 305 306 to IP 192.168.1.11

Note: You will need the spaces like I did in the destination digits within the gateway programming.

Yes it's centralized vmail

and as Dbrewsky stated

when programming the IP Gateway, thats where you need to be more specific.

But you should have no problem

My 400 has 2 PRI's with DID's in which DID's get sent across my voip ( SIP ) to BCM50 locations.
