UCX hardware restrictions

I just found out about the new hardware restrictions imposed by emetrotel.

Effectively, all our old UCX 50 units are no longer able to get software support and updates? In order to continue to get updates we need to replace our hardware with the new versions??? Am I missing something? As UCX is based on centos, asterix and elastix why int eh world do we need to update our hardware to continue to get software updates?????

Why do we need to replace our hardware - which has normal hard drives, memory etc and replace them with a rebadged openvox box in order to continue getting software updates?????

Why are they restricting the new galaxy mini to a max of 32 stations when according to openvox, it can handle 300 concurrent calls and 1000 stations????

Am I the only person that's now questioning going with emetrotel in for additional systems?

My guess is that E-Metrotel is using different internal configuration to lower cost as this unit is focused on small office applications they probably went with less capable IC's. Do you have any information on what process ram and chipset the Vox solution uses? I couldn't find that information.

Looking back here looks like almost 7 years since the 50 came out, time flies.

Did you contact e-metrotel or your dealer to inquire yet?

Another possibility is that the 1000 stations and 300 calls claim is not realistic.

I cannot see why OpenVox would be mention E-metrotel's products whom is a competitor.
OpenVox has the "OpenVox UC501 PBX" which does just that, 300X1000

OpenVox didn't mention E-Metrotel but if you look at the UC501 its clearly the same case as the Galaxy Mini. However, given that E-Metrotel has structured the Mini as a low-end offering I think its safe to assume they've dropped in reduced functionality chip set and locked it to the 32 extensions so that its not competing with their own UCX250 for mid to large size offices. Also after looking around its seems nearly all hardware vendors working off the freePBX platform lease basic hardware designs from one another and just rebrand them. I've also noticed this with a lot of phones from different manufacturers being nearly identical in look.
