I was asked to implement UCCnet with my company. First off, please excuse my lacking familiarity with UCCnet.
Basically my questions is this: I work for a pharmaceutical company that does products for over 100 customers but on 95% of the items, we are not the brand owner. The customer provides us with a UPC code and we create a box and label with their brand name and their codes. Am I allowed to create my own GTIN?s with someone else?s bar codes? What are customers like Wal-Mart and Wegmans doing with this issue? I just want to make sure the right information gets into the system. Thanks in Advance!

Have you considered evauluating a 3rd party solution provider for UCC? Thats what I did, and our situation is probably easier than yours. Since I got involved last year the whole UCCnet stuff has been in flux and requirements keep changing.

Thanks for your response. We are using Cleo for synchronizing our data. I talked to support about the issues that I am having and they stay that I am not the only one having the problem and that I should start with our brand items first. The problem with this is my superiors want me to start with the customers that are pushing Uccnet. I think the best thing to do is to ask the customer how they want use to implement their items in Uccnet. I would just rather get some examples and prove to are customer that we can do what they need instead of asking them what they want. Thanks.

HI

I work for a pharma company too and we are also having the same problem as some of our customers wants to go to UCCNET and some wants WWRE. For Now we are planning to send 832 for walgreens. In future we may have to look into how exactly we need to proceed. we use gentran NT and that does not support UCCNet. Planning to get GIS so it might make our life easy. Still in discussions so we dont know exactly how to proceed. Any suggestions in this regard helps us a lot.

Thanks in advance.

The 832 EDI document is separate from the UCCnet initiative, I thought of going that road about six months ago, and I realized it's a whole different ballgame. We are a supplier for the top 25 US/global retailers and are also looking for the best solution. UCCnet requires a lot of prerequisites. First, you need to make sure that your comapny has established a Product Identification program based on UCC council standards. If not, make sure that you only "upload" or share Product ID and attributes that will be compliant. Your best information source will be your current Catalogue service provider like WWRE, QRS, SPS Commerce, Sterling Commerce. Make sure that you ask them if they are capable of handling and sharing all required attributes based on your product category (i.e. pharma, hardlines, etc..). Also, you need to join UCC Council - membership $600.00/year. hope this helps.
