I have a InterTel/Mitel 5000 with UCA 4.X. Softphone works inside the office. Not outside the office.

Mitel tells me Telework licenses and server are not required for 5000 series. They mention nothing about vpn requirements.

Can a UCA 4.X softphone work outside of the office without a VPN or Telework license? We have all of the required ports open, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The thing is you need to be able to point your set at home to the IP of your 5000. Usually that IP ( the IP of the 5000 ) is not a internet routable IP. You would need to be able to setup port forwarding rules in your firewall to take an internet routable IP and forward traffic to it from your set, to the appropriate IP and ports on to the 5000. Doing so however would expose your 5000 to the internet. Not really a good thing.

Hence you use a VPN for security and to give you remote access to your corporate network ( where the 5000 is )or, the teleworker does the same thing by redirecting traffic from sets to 5000. It also provides security.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
