UC module upgrade

Hi, I need to upgrade a UC module and have checked the relevant tech tips and installation guides. It states 'In all cases, always backup all application data to a separate location before upgrading' however i must be missing something as I cannot work out how this is done? Can anyone advise?

i followed these steps when i back up my VMPro application.


Code:
a.	Open the Voicemail Pro Client application and connect to Voicemail Pro server.
b.	From the Administration menu, select Preferences > General.
c.	Click the Backup & Restore tab. 
d.	Click Backup Now.
e.	(Optional) If you want to protect backup files from unintended and malicious tampering, select the Encrypt Backup check box.
f.	Select the items that you want to include in the backup. You can choose from the following:
•	Voicemails: The voice messages received in the user and hunt group mailboxes.
•	User Greetings & Settings: The personal and temporary greetings, greeting configuration settings, mailbox configuration settings, outcalling configuration settings, and custom recordings.
•	Campaigns: The responses received for campaigns.
•	Call flows, Modules & Conditions: The call flows, modules, conditions, and meta information for campaigns.
•	Module Recordings: The recordings for the various modules.
•	System Settings: The settings like Voicemail Pro settings, COS settings, debug settings, and so on.
g.	To save the backup files locally, enter a local file path (that is, C:\filepath) or a remote file path in UNC format (that is, \\server\filepath)in Location. 
•	The default file path on a Windows-based server is C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\VoicemailPro\Backup\Scheduled.
•	The default file path on a Linux-based server is /opt/vmpro/Backup/Schedule.
•	The Location field is unavailable if you select Remote Backup Configuration.
•	If you are using Voicemail Pro installed on Unified Communications Module, also see Backup paths on UC Module Voicemail Pro.
h.	If you want to save the backup files to a remote FTP server, select Remote Backup Configuration and proceed as follows:
•	Enter the host name or the IP address of the remote FTP server in Remote FTP Host.
•	Enter the absolute FTP path of the folder on the remote FTP server in Remote FTP Location.
•	Enter the FTP user name in FTP User Name.
•	Enter the FTP password in FTP Password.
•	If you want to use SFTP for data transfer, select SFTP.
•	Click Test Connection to verify the connectivity of the Voicemail Pro server to the remote FTP or SFTP server. If you receive an error message about the authenticity of the host, see SFTP Host Key Verification
Note! Copy also the folder where the backup file was saved.

i have not tried backing up the One-X portal since i haven't used this service in UCM.
 
Thanks for the reply, having read the documentation again I think it was a case of me misinterpreting what needed to be done.

I am however having a problem with the upgrade, it is taking a lot longer than expected (by me), over an hour now, I have a monitor connected and rather than showing the white screen with Avaya logo and the packages completed/installing Avaya applications progress, the text cannot be read, almost as if there is an issue with the display driver or something.

The LEDs are blinking as if the upgrade is still in progress, 1 and 2 alternate green blink and status solid green with orange heartbeat, but I'm not sure if anything is actually happening, has anyone come across this before?
 
There are two ways to upgrade but it depends on the Release.
