I just moved from a VMPro computer to a UC Module. I can't seem to get SMTP to work. The logs show that it can't reach the IP address (using an IP vs FQDN) -- We use SIP lines, so I know my IPO has internet access. There is a 0.0.0.0 route in the IPO to my remote gateway. The gateway in the UCM is that of my IPO. What am I missing to get it talking.

VMP-ALARM|SMTP - Tried host "x.x.x.x" on port {465} with Non-Secure connection 432292 ms ago and it failed then, will not try again for another 467708 ms.|

Can you ping the default gateway or a public IP address from your UC module?

I can ping lan2 ip address from the UCM. but I can't ping the (external) gateway of the IPO. I can ping the gateway from outside the network. Should Nat on Lan1 on the IPO enabled?

Also LAN2 on the UFC card (at least in manager) shows 0.0.0.0 for ip and subnet. The route on the UC is set to the IP address of the IPOs Lan1 address.

login on the admin page of the UCM address UCM>:7071 and adjust the ip adressing or open the UCM in Manager and adjust ip addressing, it needs a default gateway which usually is not the ip office.

I was able to make it work. There is no default gateway on our internal network. I had to enable NAT on Lan2, which then allowed me to ping externally from the Lan1 bridged interface.

Is the IP Office hooked up to Internet directly? Over LAN2?

Brave, very brave.

No, its connected to a Cisco firewall via lan2? Is that wrong?

No that is OK, I just thought it was hooked to Internet directly which is a very bad idea.

setting the UCM gateway to be the IP Office (lan1) should have worked correctly (I do this with all the C110's I maintain so I can access them via my Dialup Networking connection)
how is your 0.0.0.0 route on the IP Office configured?

connecting to the UCM via ssh & issuing a traceroute could help diagnose thse issues if you have them again (now you are working I wouldnt bother to change anything)

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
