UC module - backup failed 1

Go this in my email:

"Phone at ext 10 is having issues accessing voicemail. Device is saying Backup Failed. When trying to listen to old voicemails it's just blank saying 6 old voicemail with all the same time and date. On my phone screen, it says, "Backup Failed" and I have six old messages that I'm unable to access."

Does this sound like a hard drive failure?



 
UCM is as unreliable as Avaya itself.

We sold 12 of these and we have 10 dead UCM modules in a box.

So i would not be surprised if the module is dying.
 
? Ext10 and a "Backup Failed" message on the phone display all say Basic Edition system to me.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.
 
I am going on site tomorrow. Is there a procedure to reset the VM to default settings?
 
I would go onsite to do a backup and yes it is basic edition as stated
 
Every version of Manager you can get in case an SD recreate is needed. A DTE cable, a replace SD, a replacement UCM (it may have been a Basic Edition that them got converted to Preferred Edition but retaining the original numbering).

If you can call them before you go, you may be able to get the system release and more clues to its mode. On Basic Edition it can be shown by dialing FEATURE 590. On other modes press two unused programmable buttons simultaneously works on recent release.

If UCM, you can use all the tools SSA, Monitor, Voicemail Pro client to try and spot what the problem is. The VMPro client has good underused tools for emptying out redundant mailboxes - display the list of users, look at their stats and right-click on any suspect to see the options (empty or delete).

If embedded, shutdown the card and eject. Examine the /system/dynamic/lvmail folder for number and quantity of files. The back of the Embedded Voicemail Install manual includes details of using DTE cable connection to see mailbox info and also clear out messages.

I never do Basic things so I did not recognize, the header pointed to a UC Module, that is not availabe for Basic is it?
 
They said it had UC. Looks like it is Basic.

i think the first thing yo need to do is confirm fully what the customer actually has

UCM (& VM Pro) is not available in muppet basic mode, but that does not mean that kermit & co did not sell & fit one.

I suspect you have a failed SD card that needs replacing - at least if it is in muppet basic mode there are probably no licences to swap.

Assuming it is basic mode and doesn't actually have a UC module I would check in embedded file management to see if you have a massive voicemail file clogging everything up. This seems to happen somewhat often in basic mode and causes all kinds of fun issues when it happens. Also check in SSA if there is a mailbox with just a crap ton of voicemail and check if the voicemail is full or almost full.

If it is standard mode and does have a UC module (shudder) consider switching away from the UC module (you can keep it in for the license if it provided one but still use a server). I agree with Intrigrant we sold very few UC modules and the ones we did were nothing but trouble and I don't think a single one is still in service now. Maybe the newer ones are better (I wouldn't hold my breath) but the few I got my hands on where just terrible.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Any progress in resolving what kit they actually had and what the problem was or might have been?

I walked them through clearing the error but the mailbox issue remains. So I am going to rebuild their SD card. I have quoted them and upgrade to 9.1.
