Hi, does anyone know if UC Advanced supports SIP Trunking. I know that the last time I looked at YA Pro the release notes stated that SIP trunking was not supported.....

Thanks

Kenny

looking in the latest UC advanced guide I have it still says no.

OK I'll bite.

What is it about sip trunks that is missing in UCA?
Sip softphone not available but sip trunk?
What are you trying to hook up to?

Dave

You can't believe anything you read... unless of course it's this sentence.

UCA does not support all SIP trunks, but it does work with them. I use it all the time via SIP trunks.

Hey, I've got a 3300 with no TDM just SIP trunking to an asterisk gateway which then in turn has SIP/IAX Trunking (there is also a teleworker involved too).

When I purchased the kit I was planning TDM and bought 10 YA Pro Licenses (which are still not activated in the AMC and I'm told I can just get them swapped for UC Advanced).

I currently use dual mode phones which work great, i presume that when going out over the SIP trunk they switch to SIP Signalling as I can see from the asterisk server it is sending the RTP direct to the tw server for all the calls.

I presume then that if the UC Advanced does not support SIP Trunkning then the softphone does not do SIP......

I dont really want to go through the hassle of finding server space and setting it up if it is not going to work.

TheMitelGuy- what is terminating your sip trunks?

Thanks

Kenny

Our SIP Trunks terminate on the 3300 ICP/MCD.

Where are you getting the info that UCA does NOT support SIP Trunks?

I'm curious too.
What is it that doesn't work?

Yes, I missed that. Guide says it doesn't support SIP but SIP users no mention of SIP trunks. Not sure why a UC client would have a problem. Mitai phones don't switch to SIP when they go out SIP trunks do they?

They kinda do switch to SIP, but they remain within the MiNet stack (call control of the phone). The phones speak MiNet + SIP.

This should not be confused with the full working in SIP Mode (from boot up).

I don't know for sure, so don't quote me, but I would guess it would work, and here's why:

1. The UCA softphones are MiNet only (not SIP).
2. UCA uses MiTai.
3. You can make a call between two MiNet phones, over SIP trunks, using MiTai.

caveat: By 'SIP trunks', I mean SIP trunking between 3300's, a SIP trunk to a SIP service provider may be a different matter.

Hi, I guess I'll just have to set it up and see.....

I am going to a SIP provider (well IAX but via a sip trunk).

Will post back on my findings.

Thanks for the responses

Kenny
