Happy jig dance time?!?!?!?

Well the Justice Dept. is happy, $10 million thru 2009. Too bad it will make little to no difference in spyware attacks that have neen steadily increasing as of late.

"The House voted 395 to 1 to impose jail sentences of up to 2 years. Violators could face fines up to $3 million per incident. Those who use spyware to commit other crimes, such as identity theft, could have an additional 5 years tacked on to their sentences"

Who was that 1 Vote?

someone who made a lot of money that morning...

Very good point Lloyd. And I agree with Frog, this won't greatly reduce the number of spyware attacks currently happening. However, it can give people a course of action against US located firms now.

yes.. we can't expect legislation to curve the current behaviors..

This just gives us the ability to actually do something about the ones we can.

Kind of like viruses.. we don't expect to rid the world of viruses.. just stop the writers we can.

And this also gives the government a new cash opportunity, with plenty ($3 million) of incentive to stop them.
