I have a new customer that has a SonicWall TZ105. At this time they do not have the login info so I can't access it.
What I want to do is add a second internet connection to the unit so that they can have a cable primary data connection and a back up DSL connection.
While I am used to larger SonicWall units, I have no experience with this little guy.
It has a WAN port, a LAN port and 4 more unidentified ports. Due to its small size and lack of any identification on them, I am guessing that these are standard switch ports.
Can I take one of the ports and redefine it as a WAN port?
Is the software in this unit the same or similar to a larger unit, so that I have the failover and load balancing under the network?

Thank you!

First thing, you'll want the login info to the tz105.

The tz105 should be able to do wan failover/load balancing. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the tz105 so I cant give a definite answer. I dug up some spec sheets on it and it should be able to do the wan failover/load balancing.

There is only 1 port that is labeled on the device as a WAN port. You are correct in the fact that the 4 unidentified ports are standard switch ports. The 4 four of them can be reprogrammed as additional WAN ports if desired. In your case you will only be programming one of those ports as a WAN port.

I dont have any experience with larger sonicwalls so I cant comment on the similiarity of the software. I have worked on TZ 200, 205, and 215. I also have 2 NSA 220s in a HA setup. All these devices share the same software.

Depending on the version of the SonicOS Enhanced there are 2 different guides on setting up WAN failover.

If your tz105 is running SonicOS Enhanced 5.6 and above this is your guide.

If your tz105 is running SonicOS Echanged 5.5 and below this is your guide.

I apologize this response got to you a little late. (I just noticed the date you posted it)

Regardless, I hope you find this information useful. If you have anymore questions shoot me a pm
