Hi everybody!
I live in Bulgaria. My TZ setting on a AIX5.2 is as follows:
TZ=WET-2WET
I read the AIX documentation about how this environment variable is configured. I can't understand how come all the defined system tz (except the tz that I live in) have different values for standart (std) and summer (dst) time zones (ex. WST-4WDT, MEST-3MEDT). Shouldn't it be something like WET-2WEST?
By the way the system time is one hour ahead the time it should be.
Thanks
Mirena

Does your timezone go to summertime and back?

next line: spaces are for clarity only
TZ=word1 offset word2

time as printed out by date command uses word1 if standard time is in effect (winter) and word2 if daylight savings is in effect (summer)
offset is difference between CUT (GMT) and your time zone

I have following TZ:
TZ=NFT-1DFT,M3.5.0/02:00:00,M10.5.0/03:00:00

standard time => NFT is printed as TZ
daylight savings time => DFT is printed as TZ

My system goes from standard to daylight savings time on month 3, week 5, day 0 at 02:00:00 (i.e. last sunday of march at 2am) and back to standard time on month 10 week 5, day 0 at 03:00:00 (last sunday of october at 3am).

If you do not specify the changeover dates/times I believe the system will adhere to US changeover dates (april to october).

edit /etc/environment TZ line manually and reboot.

Does your timezone go to summertime and back?"
Yes, we are in summertime now.

I had a look at other AIX servers in my company. Their TZ setting is the following:

TZ=CUT-2CUT-3,M3.5.0/03:00:00,M10.5.0/04:00:00

This server is a new installation and probably the implementation team did not pay attention to the TZ (they used the default value for Bulgaria), as the application is not crucially time dependant.

Thanks however for the tip, I wiil edit the file and reboot.
