Hi ,

Please can somebody tell me about all the different network cards like hme , qfe . erie , lo , dmfe and so on ...

I mean whats the difference between these cards..if there is any document just for describing various charcterstics of these cards ..please let me know.

thanks,
Kris

I am sure someone can dig up some docs.

Some of the difference is that on some you can set speeed/negotiation per interface via either ndd or /etc/system, but some can only be set by editting a conf file, and is per driver and therefore affects all such devices.

The more stable cards like hme or qfe I have almost never had a problem.

Some of the cards on lower end server always seem to need patches to fix negotiation or link status problems. And unfortunately these are usually on board cards and not swappable.
