Hello,

I'm helping someone set up a new laboratory. I was wondering if someone has any suggestions for a small business router. Needs to have VPN and does it need to be wired or wireless for security reasons?

Thanks.

What is the budget and what are the requirements for the router? You stated it needs to be vpn capable but how many users will this network have now and say a year from now? How many vpn's? Wired or wireless really depends on the end users needs, which do they want? (I tend to separate the duties anyway) Also, what type of internet connection will this have? Cable, T1, etc.....That will help identify what type of interface you need... ethernet, serial, etc.

CCNA, BCNE, Security+, Network +

Between $300-$400, but i wouldn't be limited if i see something that i need and like. With about 10-15 users and min 5 vpn users, possible 10 by end of year one. The connection is cable 20Mbps down/10Mbps up.

I was thinking something like: Cisco Small Business RV 220W Wireless-N Network Security Firewall, it has dual frequency bands, 25 VPN tunnels, interface up to 1000 Base, etc... The only part i don't understand is the software for OS provided is Linux, unfortunately they will be running Windows.

Thanks.
