Type of media mounted

Is it possible to determine what type of media was mounted (whether it was an hdd, cdrom, etc.) when using the smbmount command?

I am working on a script that will backup certain files from a user's hard drive each night. My hope is this will protect them from themselves since they refuse to use the network storage provided for them.

If anyone is interested, I would be happy to either post, or send, the script once it is done.
