I am working with a small book. the MSS was prepared in Word and autoflowed into PageMaker(7.0) running in XPHome. Then several pictures that were prepared in Photoshop (CMYK) were placed into the PageMaker file. I cannot figure out why the type shows up as CMYK in the digital printer where it will be finally printed. The file has Master pages with a rule and type in the header. The type shows up as "Black", but I am not sure of the rule. When I use either File or Stroke there is no color option that I can find.

I would appreciate help on this.

Text imported directly as a Word doc will bring in its own colour - an RGB 'black' that shows up as 'auto' in the colour palette. Click on that colour in the palette and drag to the trash bin - you will be asked if you want to replace all instances of auto with black. Say yes.

Neatly put, Lyn!

I've edited the AF PM Win FAQ accordingly:
6.8 - Importing Text from Word (*.doc)
(Had a bit of a problem with the above link - it should work if you're already logged into AF.)

Hope you enjoyed the Cricket!

Thanks Eggles. I will try that, however, I kinda' hate to un-do and then re-do my whole book, but I had wondered if there was not something like that that I had missed. Oh, well!
Thanks for your time.

Not hard to do at all. Just click on that colour in the palette and drag to the trash bin at the bottom of the palette - you will be asked if you want to replace all instances of auto with black. Say yes. Done.

I really appreciate this additional enlightenment.
When you say "palette" which do you mean?
Should I : do Ctrl+A (highlight all text) > Right click > select "Character" > and then where it says "color" do what you say?
Also, under "Utilities" there is "Define color. . . is it here? As well as in Text > Character, etc.
Thank you so much for your help on this. I have been having this trouble on 3 books and about to tear my hair out --- what little there is left!

I am referring to the Color Palette, where all the colours in the document are listed. At the bottom there is a little trash icon. To make the text change from auto to black, you don't have to have anything selected. Just click on the 'auto' colour so that it is highlighted, drag it down to the trash bin and you will get the message about converting all auto colours to black.

Thanks, Eggles. Thank did it and so easy! That is a great help.
