Type alignment in PM7

I'm a real newbie to PM. Have been using Microsoft Pub for years and do a newsletters among other things (I'm a big photoshop user) just to give a bit of background. Try as I may I just can't warm up to PM. So maybe you can be gentle with me and answer this simple question. I can align type (right, center, left etc.) by going to the type>alignment>r,c,l,justify, but cannot figure keyboard shortcut (Sh^C etc.) When I try it types! I'm on a pc w/me os What am I missing?

Shift/Control/L (for left aligned text)
Shift/Control/R (for right aligned text)
Shift/Control/C (for centre aligned text)
Shift/Control/J (for justified text)
