1) What is a reasonable file size for a button set of 4 buttons. Mine is around 14KB. Is this small enough for a web site? Also, what should the size of an average image be?

2) Is there a way to tell the user to get the flash player without adding a link onto the site? Maybe a window that will automatically pop up?

thanks!

not real sure about your first question.....I try to keep my total load time for a flash site down to under 30 seconds which is still pretty long for a lot of people...but then again it is usually a one time load...unlike web pages. As far as individual images...I think 14k is fine for a web page.

the second question...if you are using Flash 5....let the publish settings automatically create your webpage for you and you have no need for a link to get Flash. It will check if the user has flash capabilities and if they do fine...if not it will pop up a dialog that ask you if you want to download flash player. For me on 56k and average download time it only took a few seconds.

as a second note if you are using Flash 5....(maybe Flash 4...not sure) you can hit control+enter and then select view/bandwidth profile and it will give you a rundown on file size...preload time and a ton of other useful info.

to take it a step further...select debug in the menu at the top and select 14.4 or 28.8 and then go to view/streaming. this will give you a good idea of what it is like to view the movie at that setting whether it be 14.4 or 28.8 or 56 Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

im only using flash 4. Can i still use this method of publishing? I like the idea that it pops up automatically.

According to Flash 4 Bible....Flash 4 will detect automatically whether your user has the correct Flash player installed.

This is a function of javascript contained in the HTML file that Flash 4 creates when you utilize the Publish command. It stands to reason that this is dependent upon you making sure the original code stays intact while you are making any changes or modifications to the HTML.

Hope this helps. Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)
