Is there anyone out there with config info that has (or knows how to deploy) Linux and Win2000 Server in a dual boot setup, that would give me some guidance? The post's I've read seem to be concerning workstation dual systems.

I am new to NOS's and servers, and have an oppportunity to set up both for an experiment without pressure of actually servicing anybody. I have a Dell Poweredge 2500 with SBS2000, and have acquired Suse 7.2 Pro.

Any tips or pointers to sources will be appreciated.

You will need to make room on your hard drive for a linux native partition. Check disc 1 of your distro and see if it has fips.exe. If it does then you need to boot in dos mode and run it. It will shrink your win partition down to what ever size you want. You may have to disable virtual memory until after the installation. Some distros will automatically partition and format the drive for you during install. If not, it will ask you if you want to use fdisk or druid. You will need at least 3 partitions, "/swap (usually at least twice the amount of ram), /boot (usually no more than 100 MB) and /, this is called the root partition and should take what ever you have left. The install program will ask if you want to use lilo or grub as the boot loader. Pick either one but have it installed on the Master Boot Record. When you reboot, you should see a list with both systems. Good luck.

Intall Windows first and Linux second. During the Linux installation, when asked, have either LILO or GRUB (whichever you want) overwrite the MBR. This will give you a nice boot loader where you can choose to boot into either Linux or Windoze.
