We currently have 2 domain controllers that control domains of the same name, but are not the same. Originally we had one domain called "Mercury" on which the domain controller for this domain had problems. Then (the former IT manager) decided to create a new "mercury" domain, but made it off the network and did not have anything to do with the old "mercury" domain. (for ease lets call them mercury1 (originial domain) and mercury2(new domain)).

Anyway, both of these domains now co-exist on the network and have member servers on each of these domains. Other domains on the network can only trust mercury2 and any access to mercury1 computers is prompted with a password box.

We (the new IT squad :) ) now wish to remove the old mercury1 and encorporate all of the servers (and domain controller) from mercury1 into mercury2. Is there any issues concerned with this? We planned to demote the mercury1 domain controller, remove it from the domain and then add it again to the new mercury2 domain (after doing the same on all member servers on the mercury1 domain).

Is there any issues with demoting the last domain controller on a domain (that had the same name as a new domain that currently exists on the network) ?

If anyone has any links to any information i would be grateful.

Thanks for listning and being here guys/girls....
Kind regards,
The IT squad.
