Hello,

I saw a web site with two counters operating independent of each other. I need the code for the second counter on different another .html page. Any helping hand.

If you saw the counter actually changing then it wasn't really a counter! When an HTML page is rendered on a browser, it is completely static and can't communicate with the server. Aditionally, there is no HTML code to create a counter. Page hit info has to come from a script that resides on the server and that's assuming the server is recording this info and is making it available to the site owner.

You can put as many counters on your page as you want. Assuming that you start all of them at the same time, they will all report the same information. Stagger their implementation and you'll see different values.

Counters are, at best, a distraction and provide no useful information to web surfers. You're best bet is to leave them out of your pages.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Hello Tviman,

Thank you for the infomation. What I want to is distinguish

or count the number of times click on my download? Is that possible, to at least have an idea how many click on the download? The counter is not for the web surfers but it is for my own idea and control.

You'd have to use some kind of server-side program to count the number of times a download is requested, and to display those counts on your page. Not straightforward, but fortunately other people have done the work! Take a look at
you should find something you can use (assuming your host allows CGI scripts, that is).

I stand corrected! CIAN, thanks for the heads-up.

I still think hit counters are useless and distracting.
