Hello:

When I "Restart in MS-DOS mode" (Win95-B) and run the "MEM /c /p" command . . .

I notice there are TWO command.com entries (9,232 bytes and 6,064 bytes). . . both loading into Upper Memory.

QUESTION:
Is this normal or should I only be seeing (ONE) command.com entry ?

FACTS:
I have a COMMAND.COM file in C:\ and one in C:\WINDOWS.

I "REM" out all entries for SOUND in C:\Autoexec.bat and Dosstart.bat files . . . C:\CONFIG.SYS is blank.

I am using "EXIT TO DOS" (C:\Windows) and have chosen "MS-DOS MODE" and "SPECIFY A NEW MS-DOS CONFIGURATION."

In CONFIG.SYS section (among other entries) I have -
SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM C:\ /E:512 /L:128 /U:128 /P

I am loading "CDROM / MOUSE / SOUND" drivers from "EXIT TO DOS" file.

I have 621K free Conventional Memory with 30K free Upper Memory (left over).

I am using "NOEMS" for the EMM386.EXE entry.

Just wondering WHY ( 2 ) COMMAND entries in MEM /c /p ????

THANK YOU.

The file command.com exists in both the root of C:\ [required for booting] and the C:\Windows\Command folder [more-or-less a backup copy].

Don't see any obvious reason to have the Shell= line at all unless you have a program that requires it, which due to its complexity indicates a real possibility. The two command.com entries are quite small [command.com is 92KB] which indicates only a small portion is loading in upper/high memory area and may be being dictated by the Shell= line.

NOEMS simply tells HIMEM.SYS that you are not using any old programs that require EXPANDED memory, frees up that area of memory for EXTENDED memory.
