I have setup a test network with two Cisco 3640s. I have connected the serial ports directly together with a DTE to DCE cable. HDLC and PPP encapsulation work fine. However Frame-Relay does not work at all. The carrier transitions go up and the link remains UP DOWN. Is there something missing ?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Normskin

What is the config you are using?

When I do this I usually have a third router in place, with two serial interfaces, that acts as a frame-relay switch.

in a labe setup i had the same problem. (i was using three routers). i solved the problem by switching the middle router into fram-relay switch mode.

hope it helps.

Try this command on your interface of the DCE side

"frame-relay intf-type dce"

also, make sure you have your clock rate set if you're using a serial cable..
