Hi guys, I appreciate your help.
My device manager shows that both my CD drives have error 41, which says that although Windows loaded the software drivers for the CD drives, it cannot locate the hardware itself.
This followed two power surges that restarted my computer. The strange thing is that both drives show the same error, and that nothing else is wrong. Before I assume that both are fried, could you guys hypothesize what else could be wrong?
I tried to reset BIOS settings (BIOS detects the drives), to disable/enable and reinstall the drives, and replaced the data cable. The drives are not dead - the LEDs flash as usual and both open and close normally. It's just that Windows cannot find them.
Details:
* Sony CD-RW CRX230-ED
* Combo IDE6216CO CD-RW/DVD
Both use the same IDE and power cables
* Windows XP SP2, latest updates and drivers
