I'm an Access beginner, and am trying to perform a simple calculation in a report to no avail. I receive no error message on the formula, but the object I include the formula in remains blank. I have three fields and I want to report their total in a fourth. I've written the formula (as table!field + table!field etc) using the expression builder, but there are several things I don't quite understand. Most importantly, where should my formula reside (it's currently in Data Control Source in a bound object frame). Also, is there an ability to validate the expression (once I get this addition resolved, I have a severely nested IF to build)? I am getting input boxes when I execute the report, but it doesn't seem to matter what I enter into them. What are they? Finally, how do I make the sections LESS wide on the report - I can see the whole thing but am getting an error message about the section width exceeding the report size, and I seem unable to narrow anything else (the report is only 7" wide)

Thanks in advance

1. The control should be unbound.
2. With your report in design view, select the combo below File on the Menu bar and see what sections you have in there. Then click on View/Properties to view/change their width.
3. BTW, I usually do calcs in the underlying query, rather than the report itself. Just seems easier to view that way, for me.
