I have installed a CanoScan LiDE 20/LiDE30 scanner but have a TWAIN error report .........

Unable to communicate with HP scanning software. Please verify that it has been installed and is working properly. If this problem persists, shut down your application and try again. After clicking OK, it repeats the same message, then after clicking OK again it says:
Unable to open TWAIN Source. Please check connection ...........

I used to have a HP multi function device of which I de-installed and removed all references to HP files.

Can somebody help me open the TWAIN source?

I have re-installed Windows 98 and the scanner software but to no avail.

Please advise,

Gary

What are you using to access the scanner. Do you have a graphics package, are you pressing a button on the scanner, etc.?

Many thanks for you response.

It is connected via USB. I just push the scan button and the error report displays. Also I use the graphics software supplied with the scanner and the same error message is dispayed.

Still happening !

I do know that I had problems with a HP 4100c scanner on Win98 because some usb drivers that were required were missing from Win98. They existed on the HP site but looking recently i'm unable to find them. This might be a good route for you to investigate first...

Hi,

I want to add that I am experiencing the same problem (same identical message) under somewhat different set of conditions.

Scanner 3000F USB2.0
XP Pro, Sp1
The scanner shows up in the device manager as working.
Same USB2 port on the desktop works fine with CF reader.
I plug the same scanner into a laptop (XP pro, sp1), and it works fine with canon software. Only exception is that USB port on laptop is USB1.1, so I get message that device will function slower.

Something is broken, but have not been able to figure it out. I tried PCI USB2 board, and same thing happens.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks - Achilles

I've an HP ScanJet 2100C that works fine with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0, just doesn't do it with a hub in the chain, has to go to either the rear ports or front ports on the case and can even have a 6' extension, just not connect through the hub.
