Hello

I have just purchased a new Geforce FX5200 card with a TVout connector and I would like to connect my PC to TV with both video and audio output.

The Geforce card has what I believe is a S-Video port and the TV has a SCART socket , can anyone advise what the best way of hooking these together would be?

Do I need separate leads for audio and video?

Whats the best way of connecting them for quality and performance and what is the easiest and neatest (fewest cables) way of doing it.

Thanks for any advice,

WELL if your t.v. have a svideo in you can simply buy a cable which is around 12 dollars.. If not you can get aconverter that converts ot to AV. if you had bought a ati cart it would have came with one i think there around 6-20 bucks......By the way how does that geforcefx run foor you???

You will need a conversion cable. Easy enough to get, I ordered one myself last night! From MAPLIN ( a UK based outfit. If you live in the States/Canada, try radioshack.
You're looking for an s-video to Scart lead.
As for sound, I'm not 100% familiar with the FX5200, but it is unlikely to support sound, as it is a graphics card. However, just above or below your TV socket, on the back of your PC casing, you should have a mini jack socket for speakers. If you have a separate, third-party sound card, then you may have other options for sound out.
The s-video to scart cable should have a scart socket on one end, the other end should have an s-video plug and two co-axial cables (left and right channels).
To connect these L/R to a mini jack, you will need:
2 x *coaxial connectors* (about 75c each)
1 x *twin coaxial to mini jack plug (stereo)lead* (about $4)

Using the *coaxial connectors*, connect the two coaxial ends of the *s-video to scart cable* to the *twin coaxial to mini jack plug lead*. Plug the mini jack into the sound out socket on your PC.

This is the set-up I use myself on a PC with the Geforce4 440se. I have never come across a cable to do this job in "one piece". If you intend to use a high end stereo system to play back sound rather than your TV, then use the *twin coaxial to mini jack plug lead* to connect your sound output from the PC to the sereo system rather than the *s-video to scart cable*.

Believe it or not, this is the most straight-forward solution. It gives good quality transfer (s-video picture and full stereo sound). Use cables and connectors with goldplating on the contact surfaces for best quality (both picture & sound)
Alternatively, contact your nearest audio-visual hire company. They may make you an "all-in-one" cable to custom length, which may suit if this is a commercial installation which will be permanent. Warning though-they will charge you an arm and a leg!

Thanks for your help guys, I think that I have the info that I need now, and after a lot of hunting around I have discovered that these items are sold in packs on ebay in 2,3 or 5m lengths

You get a Scart input/output S-video & L&R Audio converter and the s-video cable and twin coaxial to mini jack plug lead all for about £12.00 ($15.00)

As for the card itself, I am not a avid gamer but have tested it on Flight Sim 2002 and it works real smooth, I had a few addon scenerys that were pretty much unusable with my old GF2MX440 but now they are no problem at all.

Cheers,

I'm using the SB audigy 2 and am looking to sort out linking my pc to tv. Using the twin coaxial to mini jack plug (stereo) lead as suggested, is that the best option or should I have two leads plugged into the sound card (if that makes sense)? If so, what connector do I need to connect the audio leads to the sound card as these do not fit....

I have the SB Audigy2 as well, only one stereo out on it, the other outs are for surround sound speakers.
Plug the sereo jack (if you have a large ended jack plug you may need the "big to small" adapter) into "out 1".
If you're graced with surround sound speakers, plug 'em all in!
