I just stumbled on this forum resource. I'm the "computer guy" at a small semiconductor firm where I do everything from budget to answering the door, including Access programming and pbx work. I've figured out how to do basic admin on this Meridian 11, running release ?24?. Now and then, I need to do something out of the ordinary and have a good set of manuals, but without training in this area, they aren't as useful as they could be. I know a little about how the switch and its software work, but am still pretty clueless. Short of becoming officially certified, are there any tutorial type resources, either for this system or for pbx switches in general? For example, I sort of know what a trunk is, but not really. The only thing I know about "customer" is that I always put in "0". I would like to be able to go through and make all the TN configs consistent.

TIA

Customer`` relate to the phone system you are working on
When you are working on one single phone system (PBX), you are working on customer ``0``
If your system is networked to other phone systems (PBXs)
Each PBX, is a Customer and is identified by a number (1, 2, 3)
Main PBX is customer 0
Other PBX will be customer 1, customer 2 and so on
It is away to tell the system which PBX you are about to work on

you are incorrect in your answer for what a Customer is and where it is. you can have up to 99 customers on one PBX. Customer has nothing to do with other PBX's in a network.

ACE.. is right. Other PBXs in the network can have customer defined as "0".

Sorry Guys
I think I had it wrong
Thank you for the usefull Remarks

Nortel has some CBT's for beginners, but they are very limited and quite expensive.

Another possibility is to contact the vendor for your PBX, if you have one, and tell them your situation. They may be willing to share info, or, if you have a maintenance contract, they may allow you to place a number of "free" service calls so a tech can come out and provide some basic info.

Since you have a set of books, you can look in the "Features and Services" book(s) for feature related info. It will describe what a feature does, then explain how to execute it.

Also, you may look on the net. One source with some basic info is
Otherwise, forums like this (I think Yahoo has one also, been a while) are the best, low cost place to go.
