Turning on DLT compression?

Anyone know how to turn on compression for my Quantum DLT drive under linux? I've toyed around with mt, but I can't seem to find what I need.

Quantum spent three weeks "researching" an answer for me, then finally (after I contacted them again) kinda shrugged and said "I dunno".

Ah, excellent. Turns out I did have compression enabled. I just couldn't figure out how to get it to report that fact.
