I am trying to prevent the user from auto hiding the task bar in windows xp.I can turn off taskbar properties under user configuration, administrative templates,Prevent changes to taskbar and startmenu settings, but what if the user already had auto hiding turned on.

My setting from the domain GPO will deny access to the taskbar properties, but what about the users who already had the setting to auto hide. Can I force the setting back to default or will I have to go to each workstation and take off auto hide then set the policy to prevent access to the taskbar properties tab.

Any ideas/

You would need to first identify the registry keys associated with the desired settings. Set that via script or GPO using the DesktopStandard free AD add on. then apply your GPO lockdown.

I hope you find this post helpful.
