Turning off layers

I want to be able to paste images into a picture without it puting each one in a new friggen layer. I dont care about being able to move each object around, I just want it all to go to one layer

You can't just paste something in without it creating a new layer. Once you do paste something in, it will go into a new layer, then you can postition it where you want then press Ctrl+E, to merge the layer down to the previous one.
