Hello everyone,
There was a thread on this subject, but it was already closed, so I created this one.

In event of AC power loss and battery shortage, I need to turn on the system automatically whenever power is back.

The hardware I have is an Asus EeePC running Windows XP SP2. The BIOS(ASUS 701 ACPI BIOS Revision 1001) does not seem to have any wake-up features.
Is there any way to do this without BIOS support?

It is probably possible to replace the power-on button by a circuit to automatically do the action on power recovery, but this would be my last resort...

Thanks in advance.

I would imagine that this is controlled via the Bios.

If your Bios is unable to support this function, you might be able to find an unofficial Bios (which is more configurable) by searching Google with your Motherboard details.

This is the sort of thing I am referring to but it can only be taken as a rough guide of what might (or probably wont) be available.

Crippled Bios in Asus Barebone V3-P5G33

Is it a home computer or business? Are there any staff on the premises 24 hours per day. Is it possible for you to be alerted by your power company after any blackout is fixed?

The sole purpose of the computer will be to run an application 24 hours / 7 days.
We need to avoid the need of user action whatever problems occur.

For now I decided to use the harware solution. I've put a simple circuit to act as a button push when AC power comes back.
Programming the BIOS seems more risky than that :).
