If I enter a pattern of numbers in sequential records, Access takes over and assumes the next value. For example, I type 5305 in record 1, 5306 in record 2. Access automatically enters 5307 in record 3. This is making me nuts and I can't figure out how to turn off this feature. By the way, this field is TEXT.

Perhaps an AutoCorrect feature to deactivate ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

Hi, PHV. I had already checked the AutoCorrect but didn't see anything that seemed to do with this issue. Did I miss something that you see?

Wow! This seems like a huge MS oversight to me. It makes an experienced data entry operator (someone who doesn't watch the screen) too prone to errors.

I don't mean to kill the messenger,Duane. Thanks for your feedback.

my experience is somewhat different. "Experienced" data entry operators seldom look at the screen duriing the data entry process, and continuing to type after the 'auto entry' simply overwrites the existing data?

Just to know, in which context are you experiencing this behaviour ?
In a data entry form ?
Please, don't say me that you enter data directly in the table view.

Hope This Helps, PH.

It can be done in a datasheet view as well. But it a few conditions have to be met for this to happen.
1)All other fields have defaults and/or not required
2)datasheet view or table
3)Have to use arrow keys not mouse or tab

Huge oversight. I do not know about that. I just do not design a lot of databases for data entry that would meet those conditions.

I believe Dhookum is correct that this can not get turned off. If you are concerned then set the default on the field. You could put a 0 or "Pending". Or make a continous tabular form.

Thank you all for your input.

When I began building the database I had to do some housekeeping to massage the Excel data I imported. This is when I noticed the "problem". After I designed the forms, this "problem" was no longer an issue. That's been a while ago and I actually forgot about this posting. Sorry for not getting back to y'all earlier.
