Turn off 550 5.1.1 User unknown messages being sent out 2

Hi all,

I want to stop Exchange notifying the external sender that their email was sent to an unknown user.

This is because we have removed an old email address which was getting spammed, but now I'm concerned email is still coming in for that address and exchange is sending notifications back out again.

Can you tell me how to turn off the 550 5.1.1 User unknown messages being sent back?

In ESM, under Message Delivery. The Tab for Sender ID Filtering to control SPAM, there is a delete option that won't send back an NDR

I believe there is another setting, but I will have to look it up.

There is also a recipient filter in Message Delivery that can block email to just that address or filter all recipients that are NOT in your Directory.

If you enable recipient filtering, make sure you enable tarpitting to avoid dictionary attacks.
