Hi,

I am having a nightmare of a problem with my remote VPN.

Using a 200R at our server end I can get access to the network resources no problem when using a 56K dial-up access and the Symantec Client software version 7.0 (DES).

However when I connect through an ADSL connection I get the tunnel established successfully but then cannot ping anything on the server and the initial IP address used for establishing the tunnel cannot be pinged either witht he tunnel connected.

This has been tested on 3 different remote computers 2 win XP Pro & 1 with W2K, 2 with fixed ADSL IPs and 1 with dynamic ADSL IP, with all firewall software turned off.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I am thinking of handing in my resignation and retiring to the sun if I can't get this fixed. (sounds like a good idea anyway!)

What response are you getting when you ping? You can always ping, doesn't always give a good response, but the specific response can be valuable in tracking these issues down.

If the VPN is connecting, I would suspect a routing or a subnetting issue. What kind of IP structure are you using for your VPN? Are the subnets the same on both ends -- they shouldn't be.

Hi,

I have just resolved the problem, seems like my network card was causing some prob, so I removed it, can ping the internal IPs no problem now and can access the files from the server at work. The only problem that I have now is working out how to get the IPs to be resolved as names so that I can setup access to the exchange server. Any ideas to save me time will be appreciated.

No panic, sorted out the name resolution problem, just need to tell it the IP in th WINS.

Cheers

Fbicfc, I too can connect to my office's VPN but cannot ping anything. Exactly what was the problem with your network card? You said you removed it, do you mean you replaced it? Everyone in my office can connect to other computer through the VPN except me, so I'm beginning to think the problem is with some setting on my home computer. Can you shed some light on my situation?

Hi packdragon,

What I actualy did was un-install the symantec client software, remove the network card from the Hardware profile, upon reboot Windows detected the card but without any of the previous settings that I had in for it, I then re-installed the Symantec Client software and it all worked fine.

Don't know if removing the network card actually did anything but it got the VPN working!!!
