Tuened off DHCP now can't get in by web browser

This is the beginning of what may be several questions to come later. First off, I turned off the dhcp server option on my mitel 3300 controller. Don't ask why, I may admit to that later. But now I can't access the system by the web interface. I can connect by serial interface and get to vxworks or what seems to be some root system.

I can type in help commands on either of these two but don't really know what's going on. I would appreciate any help in just being able to log back in with the web browser so I can do my basic programming.

Thanks

Ken

Do you get any IP address from a DHCP server?
Are there any VLANs?

It may be as simple as setting a static IP address in the same network and browsing to the 3300.
If you type 'version' from the vxworks CLI you should be able to get the 3300's IP address.

More info on your network is needed.

Using the serial interface you can find out the IP of the 3300 if you can't remember it. Then you need to statically set your laptop to an address in the subnet containing the 3300's IP address. You should then be able to get into the system because you don't need DHCP to access the GUI, just an IP on the same subnet. As suggested, if the 3300's was setup for tagging you would need to temporarily turn it off if you are connecting directly to the 3300.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Thanks for your help so far but more is needed. I have been able to get to where I can ping the device with 192.168.1.9 but when I try with a web browser I still can't get a connection. I've tried it with Putty and it pauses a second and then drops out.

I may now have bigger problems. During the trial and error period I have changed the parameters in vxworks boot settings and now cannot get past the boot statement no matter what. I had enough sense to record the previous working settings and reentered these to no avail.

I guess I need some real basic help to at least get past the boot setup. If there is a chance that I have corrupted EVERYTHING how could I eventually get another copy of the software if I need to rebuild the system completely. I bought this used so there is no trail from me back to a vendor or Mitel.

Once again HELP....

I don't think it is basic help anymore this will be more involved.

Let's start by what settings you previously recorded and then capture what is currently happening.

Sarond is right - Post up what is currently showing in Vxworks shell and send us what you previously had

This is what came up today on a fresh start after the system was off all night

AND THIS IS HOW FAR IT GOES.

I AM GOING TO CHECK THE DRIVE CONNECTIONS SINCE I HAVE MOVED AND REMOUNTED
THE CHASIS TO MAKE SURE NOTHING CAME LOOSE. I DID THE OTHER DAY BUT NOT
REAL CLOSE.

I have read how to get another drive in case this one is scrambled but how
would I replace my software? How much $$$$'s?

My thanks to all for any help.

Please ignore the last post. I did check and somehow the hdd cable had come partially loose. Hard to see until I removed the complete drive. It's getting past the boot statement so I will go back to trying to get into the web interface.

Thanks again

Ken

I have been able to get the system to boot up again. I changed the boot statement to the one below and the system went through a normal startup. I unfortunately left my digital sets at the place I was installing so I can't test them. But I had some SLT ports programmed and they work. One of them I had set to pretend it was a trunk and when I dial it the calls goes to the auto attndnt and I can transfer.
But!! I have tried to get into the listed web addresses on the following boot log but none will let me get to the web interface still.

If I ping the 10 10 33 1 I get a timed out message.
if i ping 169.254.10.1 or 10.3 I get a message saying that 169.254.56.239 shows those ports unreachable. If I ping 56.239 I get a satisfactory ping reading. Still though no programming access.

I even went back to another PC that logged in every time to make sure my shop PC wasn't configured right.

Still scratching my head and quickly running out of hair *)

Ok try the following.

Connect to RS232 interface and type 'vlan_off'
Set your network adapter to a static IP of 10.10.33.10 (or similar within the 255.255.0.0 subnet)
Connect directly to the controller on a LAN port
Try to ping 10.10.33.1
Try to browse to

You said previously that you shut off the DHCP service on the controller. Therefore as sarond says you need to set a static IP address on your laptop in the same IP address range as the controller otherwise the controller and your laptop will not be able to talk. Also as sarond say if your system has been setup that it needs tagged packets you may find you need to shut that off if you still can't launch the GUI.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Thanks,
How do I find out about the Tagged Packets or how do I turn them off to be safe? Will I need to turn them back on at a later time?

Thanks Again

Ken

A very big THANK YOU to everyone. I'm back in and my program is still there.
Now I will tell you how this all got started and what my next challenge is. I am installing this in a mobile office group and had gotten the bright idea (inspite of the fact that I had never worked on mitel IP products, (I have workd on mitel's all the way back to sx-10's) the idea was to set the phones up to work wirelessly across their already existing wireless network. I programed the phones here via hardwire and found I could plug the PBX into my wireless network here and then plug one of the phones into a wireless bridge and have it work "wirelessly" anywhere in range. By yhe way, all my phones are the 5220 model with only two having dual mode capability.

The problem began onsite when I proudly hooked up the system and phones w/o thier IP people being on hand. I had talked to one of them and he thought it should work. But the DHCP server on the mitel conflicted with theirs and although my phone worked great their internet service began to go haywire.

After talking to their IP people I turned off the dhcp server on the mitel which brought them up but began my problems. One tech suggested that I could (if I knew all the tricks) set the mitel up as a static network with addresses out of the normal 192 168 1 1 range they use and everything should cooperate. Which starts the next leg of my learning curve. Below is the specs I got off the mitel configurations and I need to know the easiest way to set it up to not interfere with them and since my phones were configured using dhcp I need to know how to reconfigure them to whatever you come up with.

Thanks Again

You can use their DHCP server for the phones if you want. Typically you use the 3300 as a DHCP if its on its own VLAN.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.

Put option 125 into their DHCP server and off you go. Depends on whether they mid it being a flat network and how big it is (number of discrete endpoints PC's and phones).

What I will sometimes do in this situation is program the 3300 to only respond to Mitel IP phones using the 'Class ID'.
Just make sure they reserve a range of IP addresses that you can use for your phones so you don't get any conflicts later on.
