I need to purchase and setup a TTY phone for someone in our office that is hearing impaired. We currently have a CS1000 rls 5.0. I've never provided one of these before, and was curious as to what I need to know or what to look for.
Many states will give financial assistance for the hearing impared, so you might want to look into that. Depending on the severity of hearing loss there are several things you can use. One person I worked with had an adapter that stuck on the back of the handset of the standard phone and clipped in to his hearing aid. Another had a teletype hooked in to the line and when calls came in a central group in the state would "translate" the calls between the caller and the user. In both cases we supplied a red lamp working off an analog line that would flash when ring voltage was present. Hope this helps, I am sure there are other ways ....
I work in a hospital and we have several TTY phones for patient use. You can use an analog port programmed as a 500 set. The staff just plugs the phone into the patient room phones port. The last set of phones I ordered were Uniphone UP 1140 by Ultratec.
