I have a customer who is planning to build a bilangual IVR with TTS, i was just wondering if it was possible to have two languages run at the same time for the TTS engine through voicemail pro, and what would be the configuration for that...

Anyone care to comment ? :)

You select the voice in control panel on the computer running vmpro. As far as I know you can only select and use one voice

Yep, that i knew, but there must be a way to setup a bilingual IVR... It's the law to have both languages up here in Quebec ! :)

A bilingual IVR is normally regional prompts with customised greetings, none I have ever done use TTS as it doesn't sound very proffessional at all :)

Scansoft TTS is pretty good, as far as customised greetings, well i guess recording every name of every road in canada and every possible number is just not possible in one lifetime... XD

Is this database integration then? I understand your problem if it is, I don't think you can do this, will dig around :)

You will obviously need the TTS languages installed, and the TTS License, before you call the speak text action, use the 'Select Language' Action to ensure the language ($loc) is set to the language of the TTS engine you are after. When the text from the speak text action is passed it will utilize the TTS engine of the selected language. If the select language is not used, it will follow the language rules as per the prompts.

this is from Release 5 documentation,

Languages

For Voicemail Pro 5.0, the supplied ScanSoft TTS software now supports the same set of languages as Voicemail Pro speech prompts except for Hungarian. If more than one TTS language is installed, a Select System Prompt Language action can then be used to switch TTS to a different language from the selected default

If you can wait for the upgrade that will work for you :)

I believe it is true in 4.2 also, though am under the impression that the TTS engine with 5.0 is better.

You will need one TTS licence per call using the feature too BTW :)

TaureanDragon, have you tested it ? I've read somewhere that the select language action only changes the avaya promts and not the TTS Engine language (Since it's related to the regional settings of the OS, or the selected language in the control panel settings for the TTS)... But if it is that simple it would be awesome :)

Anyways i've orered the scansoft cd's i have the license in my demo unit and will do some testing in my lab before answering my client.

Will keep you posted.
